Growing Pygmy Date Palms in Tampa
Tampa is USDA Zone 9b, with a milder microclimate along Bayshore Boulevard, Davis Islands and the rest of the bayfront than in Carrollwood, New Tampa or the county to the north. A few frosty nights each winter are normal inland, so Queen, Sylvester, Canary Island Date and Pindo palms are the reliable choices, with Foxtail and other tender palms reserved for protected bayside spots.
